Tomei Honoured Its Commitment to Environmental Sustainability with the Contribution Over RM100,000 “Tomei CARE Fund” to WWF-Malaysia While Continuing Its Efforts in the Second Tomei CARE Fund Support Campaign
Kuala Lumpur, 1 Jun – As one of the leading goldsmiths and jewellers in Malaysia, Tomei Consolidated Berhad honoured its commitment to environmental sustainability today by contributed a sum of RM102,216.96 of “Tomei CARE Fund” to WWF-Malaysia while announcing a continuous initiative to support WWF-Malaysia’s efforts on nature and wildlife conservation works.
It is indeed a remarkable milestone to Tomei and today’s presentation of the substantial amount of “Tomei CARE Fund” sees its Managing Director Datuk Ng Yih Pyng presenting the mock cheque to Executive Director and CEO of WWF-Malaysia Sophia Lim, in the presence of Helina Yow, Director of Partnerships of WWF-Malaysia, Tan Sri Dr. Madinah binti Mohamad, Independent Non-Executive Director of Tomei Consolidated Berhad and Puan Sri Nonadiah binti Abdullah, Independent Non-Executive Chairman of YX Precious Metals Berhad. The ceremony was witnessed by Tan Sri Abdul Wahid bin Omar, Chairman of WWF-Malaysia and Raja Tan Sri Aman bin Raja Haji Ahmad, Independent Non-executive Chairman of Tomei Consolidated Berhad.
The grand amount of fund is accumulated and contributed from the sale of the limited-edition gold coins collection in commemoration of WWF-Malaysia’s 50th anniversary since it was firstly launched by Tomei on 14th July 2022. The collection is limited to only 300 sets and manufactured under environmentally-friendly practices, including its packaging as well. Each gold coin is made entirely from melting down the traded-in gold from customers which is identified as “recycled gold”.
According to Tan Sri Dr. Madinah who are also the former Auditor General of Malaysia, the collection was sold at RM29,888.00 each, containing 100g of gold, marketed in conjunction with the Tomei CARE fund support campaign to pledge funding support to WWF-Malaysia by 2% of the selling price will be contributed as the conservation fund.
While addressing her speech, she said, a total of 171 sets has been sold by April 2023 after the sale campaign was temporarily put on hold for the processing of fund handover, hence, a total amount of RM102,216.96 to be contributed.
Apart from the 171 sets of collection which has been sold, Tan Sri Dr. Madinah also announced another fund support campaign to be conducted for the sale of the remaining 129 one-of-a-kind sets of gold coins collection for its continuous support for environmental conservation with minimum commitment of RM50,000.00.
“While the contribution will still remain the same, which is 2% of the selling price for each sold item to WWF-Malaysia, the pricing of the collection will however be different from the previous as the retail price is fixed according to the fluctuation of market price.”
The upcoming fund support campaign will be launched by end of June 2023 until end of May 2024 in Tomei nationwide outlets.
Meanwhile, in the speech of Helina Yow, Director of Partnerships of WWF-Malaysia, she mentioned that businesses and financial institutions can be the world’s strongest positive forces for sustainability.
“Globally and in Malaysia, corporates and businesses are embracing sustainability value. This is why we applaud this initiative under the Tomei CARE project, and for Tomei being one of the companies that are acknowledging the need to balance environmental and economic needs.”
She said, the contribution by Tomei will certainly aid WWF-Malaysia’s conservation work, ranging from protecting Malaysia’s forests and wildlife from degradation and extinction, to mitigating climate change.
In additional, today’s occasion is even more meaningful to Tomei since it is held during the celebration of Tomei’s 55th anniversary, as well as the celebration of 50th World Environment Day on coming Monday (5th June). Hence, during the group photo session, everyone showed the sign of “5” which symbolise the success of Tomei CARE fund support campaign in conjunction with WWF-Malaysia’s 50th anniversary, as well as to celebrate Tomei’s 55th anniversary and the 50th World Environment Day.
